Women write to GirlShrink all the time asking when or where they are going to meet their soulmate. It doesn’t matter what age or financial status – people are looking for the person who is their “perfect fit”.
Of course the question for some remains – is there even such a thing as a soulmate? Can you really meet someone and just “click” like in the movies?
I believe that you can – as long as you realize that the object is to find the person who you easily “click” with – but then the work of maintaining that relationship through life’s ups and downs begins.
So now what – you may say? Well, if you are looking for that person who you just click with and won’t settle for anything less (and you shouldn’t:) then the advice I always give is to search for that person like you are searching for your next job!
If you believe that you will just meet your soulmate during a busy day of shopping on the street or commuting to work – you are sadly mistaken. There are examples of this phenomena of course – but many are simply “still waiting”.
How do you begin the search? That’s a valid question. Many women don’t want to appear desperate. And I agree. But I also believe that there is a fine line between desperation and being smart.
The reality of our lives today is that we live a very different type of life than our grandparents and maybe even parents. Life is a lot faster. Modern people are much more into satisfying their own personal desires and dreams – and are hoping to just meet someone along the way.
Use your common sense. You would go after anything else you wanted in this world – so make it a point to diligently find your soulmate. Put yourself into places and positions where you are most likely to meet new people. Actively educate yourself about you! How do you appear to strangers? Do you interview men for a “job” on the first date? What have you learned from previous relationships?
